Choice
It may sound cliché, but our daily choices shape not only our days, but ultimately our lives. What we give our attention to, how we spend our time, how we respond to circumstances, and how we relate to others are all choices we make, sometimes without even realizing it.
Think about the small choices you make every day. What deserves your attention, and what is getting too much of it? What deserves your time and what is draining your energy? What are you saying yes to? What should you say no to? What should you start or stop doing? What are you tolerating, rushing, avoiding, or postponing?
The list could go on because we make choices all day long. And if we choose differently, our day may unfold differently. These are some of the everyday mechanics of Choosing Joy as a Daily Practice. When your choices align with your values, your faith, and who you are becoming, you begin to live a more intentional and aligned life. That doesn’t mean every choice will be perfect. It means becoming more aware that you have choices and learning to choose wisely.
Why Choose Joy
Having choices is a blessing, especially when we have more than one path available to us.
Making choices that reflect who you are allows you to live authentically with yourself and others.
Every choice has a consequence, which means we have some agency in shaping how we experience our lives.
How to Practice Joy
Weigh your options as they become available.
Review your choices intentionally rather than simply reacting.
Seek wise counsel or expertise when decisions are difficult.
Make choices that support your values, circumstances, and well-being.
Keep refining how you make decisions. Small, intentional choices can improve your day and, over time, shape your life.
Reflect on Joy
Which choice in your life currently gives you pause?
Do you tend to make intentional choices, or do you sometimes operate on autopilot?
What choice did you make today that affected you, someone else, or the direction of your life?
Daily Joy Reminder
Every choice has a consequence. Choose what moves you toward the life you want to live.
